As a Secondary English Teacher, you will teach KS3 and KS4 students how to read critically, write clearly, and structure their ideas effectively.
Key responsibilities
Teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4
Develop reading comprehension and analytical skills
Support structured writing and exam technique
Model high-quality written responses
Track progress and address gaps in understanding
Prepare students for GCSE assessments
Maintain clear and consistent classroom expectations
The classroom environment
Lessons are structured and purposeful
Students understand how to approach tasks
Writing improves through clear guidance
Behaviour is calm and consistent
Skills and experience
Experience teaching English or strong subject knowledge
Clear communication and modelling skills
Strong classroom management
Organisation and planning
What success looks like
Students write more structured responses
Confidence improves in reading and analysis
Progress is steady across all abilities
QTS is desirable; unqualified teachers are welcome to apply, particularly those with English or humanities backgrounds
